SMR Line Installation Instructions

Find installation manuals, wiring diagrams and operating instructions for Strobe My Ride products, including Patrol, Fleet and Signal Series warning lights, lightbars, beacons, hideaways, controllers, sirens, speakers, work lights and accessories.

Read Before Installation

  • Always follow the product-specific instructions. Wire colours, functions, fuse requirements and operating voltages vary by product.

  • Confirm the required voltage and current draw before connecting power. Never assume a product is compatible with your vehicle or power source.

  • Disconnect the vehicle’s negative battery terminal before drilling, wiring or making permanent electrical connections.

  • Fuse every positive power connection using the specified fuse rating. Install the fuse as close to the power source as practical.

  • Use appropriately sized automotive wire. Undersized wiring, poor grounds and improper extensions can cause voltage drop, inconsistent operation, overheating or product damage.

  • Use a secure ground connection as directed in the product manual. Remove paint, rust and contamination when grounding to the vehicle chassis.

  • Inspect before drilling. Check for airbags, wiring harnesses, fuel lines, brake lines, glass, structural components and moving parts.

  • Protect all wiring and connections from heat, sharp edges, moisture, corrosion and moving components. Use grommets, loom and weather-resistant connectors where required.

  • Do not alter housings, lenses, wiring or connectors unless specifically permitted by the product instructions.

Testing Your Product

Do not test SMR products using booster packs, battery chargers, household adapters or underpowered or unregulated bench supplies. These sources may provide unstable or insufficient power, causing false symptoms, improper operation or permanent damage.

When bench testing is necessary, use a properly regulated DC power supply with the correct voltage, polarity and sufficient current capacity for the product being tested.

Mounting and Final Testing

Securely mount the product using the supplied hardware or an approved mounting solution. Before operating the vehicle, confirm that:

  • All wiring is fused, protected and firmly secured.

  • The product does not obstruct the driver’s view or interfere with airbags, mirrors, sensors or vehicle controls.

  • All functions, flash patterns and controls operate correctly.

  • Warning lights are aimed and positioned for effective visibility without creating unnecessary glare.

  • No wiring can contact hot, sharp or moving components.

Compliance and Responsible Use

Certifications and compliance ratings including SAE J595, SAE J845 and ECE R65 are product-specific. Refer to the individual product listing or manual to confirm which standards apply.

Vehicle lighting laws vary by province, territory, vehicle type and intended use. The purchaser and installer are responsible for confirming that the product’s colour, placement and operation are permitted in their jurisdiction.

Need Help?

If you cannot find the correct instructions, are uncertain about a wire function or experience unexpected operation, stop the installation and contact Strobe My Ride before proceeding.

For complex installations, high-current products or equipment connected through factory vehicle electronics, professional installation is strongly recommended.
