SMR Give Back Program

Supporting Volunteer Emergency Services Across Canada

At Strobe My Ride, this program isn’t marketing.

It’s personal.

Where This Started

When I was a teenager, I was part of the Ottawa Paramedic Service MedVent Program one of the early members helping get it off the ground.

We had a vision.

We purchased a John Deere Gator using allowance money, birthday money, and whatever we could scrape together and we turned it into “Rescue 1”, a mini off-road ambulance built to serve at community events and emergencies.

One of the most expensive parts of that build?

Emergency warning lighting.

Back then, every dollar mattered.

That’s when I met the late JM Bois, owner of Intercept PSE, an Ottawa emergency lighting provider, much like Strobe My Ride is today.

He took me under his wing.

He gave me fair cash deals on used emergency lighting so we could outfit the Gator properly. Later, as we got our driver’s licences, he helped us equip our personal vehicles safely and responsibly.

He believed in giving young responders a chance.

And I never forgot that.

Why This Program Exists

I know first-hand how expensive emergency warning lighting can be for Volunteer Fire Departments, Volunteer Search & Rescue Teams, and Volunteer Medical First Responders.

I’ve lived it.

Today, Strobe My Ride is changing that.

What was formerly known as our “Patrol Surplus” section is now officially renamed:

🇨🇦 The “We’ve Got Your 6” Give Back Program

Every item listed here is available to be donated, free of charge, to volunteer emergency services in need.

Because budgets shouldn’t determine safety.

In Memory

This program is proudly dedicated in memory of JM Bois, founder of Intercept PSE in Ottawa.

Years ago, when I was a young volunteer building “Rescue 1,” he didn’t see a kid with a tight budget, he saw someone trying to serve their community.

He made emergency lighting accessible when it otherwise wouldn’t have been.
He believed in giving back.
He believed in supporting responders.

We also shared something less visible, the reality of mental health struggles that many in emergency services quietly face.

This program carries that forward.

To honour the mentorship.
To honour the generosity.
To honour the reminder that sometimes one act of support can change someone’s path entirely.

Thank you, JM.
