About Strobe My Ride

I’m Kerry Nicholson, Founder of Strobe My Ride.

My experience with emergency warning lighting began long before I sold my first light. It began on the roadside, where visibility is not a cosmetic feature, but a critical part of protecting workers, responders and the public.

I previously served as a Constable and Highway Patrol Officer in Yellowknife and the Northwest Territories. That work included traffic enforcement, winter highway operations, roadside emergencies and attendance at serious and fatal motor-vehicle collisions.

I saw firsthand how quickly an ordinary roadside stop could become dangerous, and how effective vehicle warning lighting could give approaching drivers the additional time needed to recognize and react to a hazard.

I eventually stepped away from frontline enforcement while dealing with PTSD. The career changed, but the commitment to roadside safety did not.

From Highway Enforcement to Fleet Safety

After leaving enforcement, I moved into commercial fleet safety, compliance and risk management.

My experience includes:

  • Commercial-vehicle and fleet compliance

  • Collision investigation and loss prevention

  • CVOR, NSC and USDOT safety-program oversight

  • Construction, infrastructure and winter-maintenance fleets

  • Driver training and regulatory compliance

  • Senior leadership as a Director of Fleet Safety & Claims

  • Ontario Certified Superload Escort Instructor credentials

  • Class AZ commercial driving experience

That combination of frontline enforcement and fleet-safety leadership shapes how Strobe My Ride evaluates warning-lighting products.

We consider how equipment will actually be mounted, wired, operated and seen, not simply how impressive it looks in a catalogue.

Why Strobe My Ride Was Created

The business began in 2022 after I repeatedly encountered the same problem: Canadian operators were often forced to choose between expensive legacy-brand systems and inexpensive online products with unclear specifications, limited instructions and little meaningful support.

Strobe My Ride was created to serve the space between those two extremes.

Our purpose is to provide Canadian fleets, contractors and roadside professionals with warning-lighting options that offer a practical balance of:

  • Visibility

  • Product reliability

  • Application-specific performance

  • Clear specifications

  • Canadian customer support

  • Fair pricing

  • Meaningful warranty coverage

We do not believe every customer needs the most expensive system available. We believe they need the right equipment for their vehicle, operating environment and legal requirements.

A Canadian Warning-Lighting Brand and Supplier

Strobe My Ride is a Canadian-owned warning-lighting brand and supplier based in Ottawa, Ontario.

SMR products are manufactured overseas through third-party manufacturing partners. We work directly with those partners to select, specify and refine products for the applications our Canadian customers encounter.

Depending on the product, that may include decisions involving:

  • Light output and optical performance

  • Colour configurations

  • Flash patterns

  • Synchronization

  • Multiple operating modes

  • Mounting methods

  • Wiring and programming

  • Weather-resistant construction

  • Warranty and replacement support

Products are not represented as Canadian-manufactured. Product selection, branding, documentation, customer support and warranty administration are handled through Strobe My Ride in Canada.

The SMR Product Lines

The SMR Line is organized around three different customer needs.

SMR Patrol Line

Patrol is our premium-performance line. Select Patrol products offer multi-colour configurations, synchronization and up to three operating modes for professional and emergency-vehicle applications requiring greater control and flexibility.

SMR Fleet Line

Fleet is our commercial workhorse and primary SAE-focused line. It is designed for tow operators, contractors, snow-removal crews, municipal teams and commercial fleets that need dependable everyday performance at a manageable cost.

Applicable SAE ratings are identified on individual product pages.

SMR Signal Line

Signal is our entry-level line for customers who need practical warning visibility without paying for advanced features they may not require.

Signal products provide an affordable starting point, but should only be considered SAE-rated when the specific product listing expressly identifies that rating.

Clearer Compliance Information

Warning-lighting compliance is more complicated than attaching an SAE logo to every product.

Standards such as SAE J595 and SAE J845 apply to specific types of warning devices and performance requirements. Not every SMR product carries the same rating, and we do not represent the entire catalogue as universally SAE-compliant.

Where an SAE rating applies, it is identified on the individual product page.

Similarly, Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 is an operational guideline, not a blanket product certification. Vehicle owners, operators and installers remain responsible for confirming that their equipment, colours, mounting locations and operation meet the requirements applicable to their vehicle and work.

We help customers understand product specifications and choose suitable equipment, but purchasing a warning light does not grant authorization to use restricted colours or configurations.

Our Mission

Tow operators, roadside technicians, snow-plow drivers, construction crews and emergency responders routinely work only feet from moving traffic.

Our mission is to help them become visible sooner, communicate hazards more effectively and return home safely at the end of every shift.

That mission is reflected in everything we do: the products we select, the information we publish, the support we provide and the recommendations we make.

Be Seen. Be Safe.
